Tatum and Frank were married in a small family wedding on Venice Beach. Couples like Tatum and Frank, who specifically wanted wedding photos that “don’t look like everyone else’s” are a fine art wedding photographer’s dream. Thanks to their spirit of adventure (and their willingness to brave the extreme heat), we did (I think) just that.
Tatum and Frank chose an intimate family wedding. They rented a beach house on Venice Beach, handmade all their wedding details and decor, and kept their guest list to close family and friends. All of which made for a casual and romantic day.
First, the fabulous handmade wedding day details…
Tatum’s wedding day makeup was in the brilliant hands of my top makeup/hair artist, Bioanca Robinson, while Tracey, Tatum’s mother, helped with wedding day jewelry, a gorgeous white and pink rose bouquet, and helping her into her gown.
Tatum’s wedding gown was casual and fitted for a wedding on the beach. But with her hair/makeup done, she looked incredibly regal and sophisticated, so we created some fine art glamour bridal portraits to capture her beauty.
While Tatum got ready, her husband-to-be Frank prepared for the ceremony in an adjoining room. To honor his father, who has passed away, Frank chose to wear his dad’s initial tie pin.
And then time for the First Look, which we did in the garden courtyard of the beach house…
Tatum and Frank wanted couples portraits that were unique, so instead of heading for the traditional boardwalk, we photographed in the alley behind the boardwalk, which was full of old world Venetian charm.
Tatum and Frank’s wedding ceremony was one of the simplest and most casual I’ve ever seen — they simply walked with their family and friends out to a lovely spot on the beach and took their wedding vows against the blue sky and white sand backdrop of Venice Beach. It was magical.
Back at the beach house, it was time for a soap bubble grand entrance, toasts and cake cutting.
Once the temperatures cooled down and the light softened, Tatum and Frank were game for doing a Trash the Dress session on Venice Beach. With Tatum’s fabulous flowing wedding gown, I immediately thought of doing a fashion shoot inspired by the iconic beach scene from “From Here to Eternity” and the famous photo of Rachel Ward & Richard Chamberlain in each other’s arms on the beach in “The Thorn Birds.”
And finally, it was really time to have some fun with Tatum and Frank doing a tandem surf on their boogie board!
Congratulations, Tatum and Frank! And thank you for choosing me to photograph your a one-of-a-kind wedding day.
